Domino’s Pizza helps raise funds and raise awareness

Domino’s Pizza in Orcutt—in partnership with the Santa Maria, Lompoc, and Santa Barbara County fire departments—will be raising funds for St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital and raising awareness of National Fire Safety month on Nov. 1 and 2.

The Santa Barbara County Firefighter’s Association will be taking part in a “Fill the Boot” fundraising drive at the Domino’s Pizza in Orcutt from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.. Firefighters will be there, boots in hand, to accept donations.

“It’s amazing what [St. Jude does] for the family as well as the children,” said Tim Jensen, general manager of Domino’s Pizza in Orcutt. “Domino’s actually took on St. Jude as a national sponsor, and we got pretty involved with that, did the regular fundraising thing.”

Free pizza or free smoke alarms—everybody wins

If you live in Orcutt, Lompoc, Solvang, or Vandenberg Village and order a pizza from Domino’s between 5 and 8 p.m. on Nov. 1, or if you live in Santa Maria and order a pizza between 5 and 9 p.m. on Nov. 2, don’t be surprised if it shows up at the door with a little surprise: a fire engine.

“We started this three years ago as a way to get people motivated to change their batteries. Every time you change your clock, you’re supposed to change the battery in your smoke detector,” Jensen said.

If all of the smoke detectors in the home are in working order, the pizza is free. If the smoke detector isn’t working, batteries will be provided. If there isn’t a smoke detector in the first place, one will be provided, free of charge.

According to Jensen, this is one of those promotions where you’ve got a good chance of getting a free pizza (or a smoke detector).

“We probably delivered 40 to 45 free pizzas last year, and only one set of batteries,” he said.
