I just finished reading Glen Starkeyās and Steve Millerās excellent review of Stories We Tell showing at the Palm (āTruth out!ā June 13).
I completely agree with Steveās assessment of the footage being too good for the ā60s time period. Having grown up in that era, my uncle took many 8 millimeter films of our crazy Italian family, and when we transferred them to VHS some years ago, they were choppy and the color iffy, at best.Ā
But having said that, it was great fun reminiscing, so I was surprised to see the quality of these āoldā films being so much better than ours.
Although I really did like this movie, the biggest disappointment was finding out at the end, via the credits, that the āreal familyā were actors. It felt like betrayal to me, kind of like being deeply in love and at the end of the affair wondering if it was really ārealā at all.
