I just finished reading Glen Starkey’s and Steve Miller’s excellent review of Stories We Tell showing at the Palm (ā€œTruth out!ā€ June 13).

I completely agree with Steve’s assessment of the footage being too good for the ’60s time period. Having grown up in that era, my uncle took many 8 millimeter films of our crazy Italian family, and when we transferred them to VHS some years ago, they were choppy and the color iffy, at best.Ā

But having said that, it was great fun reminiscing, so I was surprised to see the quality of these ā€œoldā€ films being so much better than ours.

Although I really did like this movie, the biggest disappointment was finding out at the end, via the credits, that the ā€œreal familyā€ were actors. It felt like betrayal to me, kind of like being deeply in love and at the end of the affair wondering if it was really ā€œrealā€ at all.
