After her change of residency to Oceano, Alcantara submitted her resignation in compliance with the rule that board members must live in the areas they serve.

According to a press release from the district, Alcantara was integral in working with the superintendent to fulfill major responsibilities, such as establishing an effective and efficient support structure and setting the direction of the school district.

Alcantara, a small-business owner, ran unopposed for the seat last year but was only able to serve part of her four-year term.

ā€œTiffany will be greatly missed. She truly cares about the education of our students, and that showed through all her hard work and dedication while she was a member of our board,ā€ district superintendent Jim Hogeboom said the release. ā€œWe were fortunate to have someone of her caliber on our team.ā€

The Lucia Mar Unified School District is the largest school district in San Luis Obispo County, and serves more than 10,600 students in its 17 schools.

Applications will be accepted through Sept. 8. Potential applicants must live within Trustee Area No. 1 (Nipomo area) and be a registered voter in the district.
