Starting this August, students, parents, teachers, and other employees at Olga Reed School in Los Alamos will be represented by a new school district.

The State Board of Education approved the merger of Los Alamos and Orcutt school districts on July 14. The decision will condense the typically 12- to 18-month timeline of the merger, making the decision retroactive to July 1.

ā€œFrom now through early August, we will be finalizing decisions on staffing, programs, and budgeting for Olga Reed for the 2011-2012 school year,ā€ Orcutt Union School District Superintendent Bob Bush said in a press release. ā€œWe will be ready for the first day of school on August 24.ā€

Olga Reed is a K-8 school with an enrollment of approximately 240 students, and was the only school in the former Los Alamos district.
