Ā For its Santa Maria debut, Recording for the Blind and Dyslexic will hold a Record-a-Thon at the Santa Maria Public Library from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Oct. 3. In addition to upping the number of audio books on file, the program should increase awareness of what services Recording for the Blind and Dyslexic offers.Ā

There will be two recording booths on the libraryās second floor, and each recording session will run 90 minutes. The organization plans on recording to include textbooks that are used in Santa Maria-area schools but not currently in its database.

āTeachers have sent a list of books, and we record them onto CD, and it increases reading comprehension,ā said organization representative Terry Keramaris.

The Central California chapter of Recording for the Blind and Dyslexic serves Santa Barbara, Ventura, San Luis Obispo, and Kern counties.

The organization was founded in 1976, and the Central California chapter boasts 200 weekly volunteers who spend more than 14,000 hours each year producing 220 audio books for students from kindergarten to grad school.
