Etta Waterfield, Republican candidate for the 33rd California Assembly District, recently announced she has raised more than $160,000 for the first half of 2009. “Etta Waterfield has excited the business community, and they’re providing the backbone of her campaign’s finance team,” campaign strategist Tim Clark said in a press release. For the past six years, Waterfield has served on the Santa Maria Planning Commission, twice serving as the commission chair. She’s also coordinator of the Santa Maria Valley Economic Development Commission for the Santa Maria Valley Chamber of Commerce, where she has worked to recruit new businesses into the area. Waterfield has also served on the Santa Maria Police Advisory Council, the Santa Maria Fairpark Board of Directors, the Committee to Improve North County Board of Directors, and the Blue Ribbon Team for the American Red Cross. Earlier this year, Assemblyman Sam Blakeslee named her the 2009 “Woman of the Year” for the 33rd Assembly District.
