Thanks to a new five-year grant from the federal government, Allan Hancock College will now be able to offer its students more on-campus support services.

The College Achievement Now (CAN) program—commonly referred to as the TRIO grant—provides academic assistance to low-income and first-generation students, students with limited English proficiency, and disabled students.

ā€œThis program has the potential to change the lives of students who take advantage of the additional staff and resources available to them,ā€ CAN program interim director Diana Perez said in the release.

According to the college, students in the CAN program must have the goal of graduating from Allan Hancock College and/or transferring to a university. Participants in the program will receive direct access to an academic counselor, as well as access to priority registration and help with job searches and scholarship applications. CAN program students will also have access to peer tutors and a support center with computers and more.

Ā There’s no application deadline for the program, but college officials say space is limited.

Program applications can be downloaded online at hancockcollege.edu or picked up at the Santa Maria campus in building W, room 22.
