The College Board, a national nonprofit association of schools, colleges, and universities, recently listed Santa Maria High School as a school with “exemplary college counseling.”
The high school was one of six schools listed in the publication Inspiration and Innovation: Ten Effective Counseling Practices from the College Board’s Inspiration Award Schools.
Commissioned by the College Board’s National Office for School Counselor Advocacy, the guidebook was based on a study of counseling programs at 18 schools recognized by the College Board Inspiration Awards.
The study recognized Santa Maria High School for boosting academic performance among students and setting new records for the number of graduates heading to college. The study pointed to the school’s tutoring programs and college resource center as powerful tools for academic success.
