Mission Valley School, an independent-study and home-schooling charter in Lompoc, is offering dual or open enrollment for students in kindergarten through 12th grade.

According to the Lompoc Unified School Districtās website, lusd.org, Mission Valley School offers students an alternative learning environment designed to inspire youth, empower parents, and promote a lifelong love of learning. And this year, the school has a new principal, Mary Coggins.
Mission Valley offers dual enrollment with the local middle and high schools to students in grades seven through 12. Dual enrollment allows older children to participate in elective classes, such as music or drama, school activities, assemblies, athletics, and clubs at their resident schools.
The school creates individualized curriculums with a one-on-one teacher-student ratios, hands-on study workshops, and tutoring. Teachers use the same district curriculum aligned with state standards, but add alternative methods as needed.
Some past workshops focused on writing skills, marine life, electricity, the Chumash culture, La Brea Tar Pits, the water cycle, and birds of prey. Students also go on a wide variety of fieldtrips to local places, such as the Cabrillo High School Aquarium, La Purisima Mission, local plays, and places of business.
Additional services, curriculum, and learning materials are provided to students and their families free of cost. This includes teaching materials for the kindergarten through eighth-grade parents, student textbooks, and workbooks, as well as supplemental materials for science and math.
The school offers open enrollment, which means students may start anytime throughout the school year, and is located at 1301 North A St. in the portable classrooms behind the Lompoc Unified School District Office.
