On May 28, officials at defense contractor giant Lockheed Martin Corporation, which has a facility in Santa Maria, admitted the company was the victim of a recent cyber attack.

ā€œOn Saturday, May 21, Lockheed Martin detected a significant and tenacious attack on its information systems network,ā€ a statement to the media read. ā€œThe company’s information security team detected the attack almost immediately, and took aggressive actions to protect all systems and data.ā€

The statement assured that the company’s ā€œsystems remain secure; no customer, program, or employee personal data has been compromised.ā€

Lockheed Martin in working with various U.S. government agencies to restore employee access to the network.

ā€œTo counter the constant threats we face from adversaries around the world, we regularly take actions to increase the security of our systems and to protect our employee, customer, and program data,ā€ the statement said. ā€œOur policies, procedures and vigilance mitigate the cyber threats to our business, and we remain confident in the integrity of our robust, multi-layered information systems security.ā€

Headquartered in Bethesda, Md., Lockheed Martin is a global security company that employs approximately 126,000 people worldwide.

Company representatives did not return calls for comment as of press time.
