Allan Hancock and Cuesta colleges were recently awarded a grant that will support their efforts to meet regional employment needs by strengthening their Career and Technical Education programs.

Funded by Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger’s Career Technical Education Initiative, the Community Collaborative Grant (SB 70/SB 1133), allows colleges to partner with businesses and industries to expand career training programs. The two colleges will start by focusing on the hospitality, tourism, and recreation sector. Businesses are invited to partner with the colleges to pursue more local hospitality, tourism, and recreation career opportunities.

The $469,700-grant will also help provide professional development for kindergarten through junior college educators in cities from Santa Ynez to San Miguel.

For more information about business partnerships or about the grant in general, contact grant coordinator Marna Lombardi or Anne Cremarosa, Allan Hancock College’s dean of academic affairs, at 922-6966, Ext. 3901.
