As part of the Family and Consumer Sciences curriculum, 35 students gain knowledge about careers with children by operating a preschool on campus. Students provide 20 3 1/2- to 5-year-olds with child care through the preschool.

ā€œSome of the students will chose a valuable and worthwhile profession involving children,ā€ teacher Virginia Whitehead said in a press release. ā€œOthers will take this important information home to their families.ā€

The students play, read stories, and engage children in activities that include sports, arts, crafts, and music. For 37 years, the class has taught students about cognitive skills, motor control, readiness, and language development.

Senior Chelsea Lovell said in the release that the class provides experience with real-life examples.

ā€œIt’s really cool to see the beginnings of the young people who will become the future,ā€ Lovell said. ā€œI enjoy hanging out with them.ā€
