Santa Maria Joint Union High School District voters have re-elected Victor Tognazzini and Dr. Jack Garvin as trustees.
Tognazzini led the Nov. 6 election with 20,327 votes (39.34 percent) while board president Garvin claimed 15,898 votes (30.77 percent), according to the Santa Barbara County Elections Office.Ā Challenger Diana Perez finished third.
āI will continue my work to ensure educational opportunities are available for all of our students irrespective of their ultimate goals,ā said Tognazzini, who was first elected to the district in 2003, in a prepared statement.
Garvin, who was elected in 2004, said he is honored to be part of a district that is filled with so many talented students, staff and teachers.
āWe have seen a lot of progress in graduation rates and student achievement and the community has a lot more to look forward to,ā Garvin said. āI really appreciate all the support I received.ā
Both men said they are excited about developing a career technical school for the district, where students will be able to learn skills that prepare them to enter the workforce.
Tognazzini is the general manager of Tri-Valley Vegetable Harvesting, Inc., and director of field food safety for Gold Coast Packing and Gold Coast Farms in Santa Maria. Garvin served as an educator for more than 40 years and was the former superintendent of Orcutt Union School District.
The trustees will be sworn in during the December board meeting.
