BOWEL MOOVEMENT?: On Feb. 4, Orcutt Academy High School will hold Cow Chip Bingo—a life-size game in which the Bingo squares are plots of grass and the Bingo chip is a pile of cowpucky. The person who owns the square on the field where the cow poops will be declared the winner of $1,000. Squares go for $10 a piece and can be purchased online at OAHScowchipbingo.org. Orcutt Academy High School PTSA is offering one lucky winner the opportunity to pocket an extra $1,250: Cow Chip Bingo—and it’s not the Bingo your grandma plays on Wednesday night at Chumash Casino.

People will have the chance to purchase Cow Chip Bingo plots prior to the event for $10 each. On Feb. 4 at 11 a.m., a cow will be set loose on a grass baseball field behind the school, which will have a grid drawn on it. The person who owns the square on the field where the cow poops will be declared the winner of $1,000.

“At the first event, two years ago, the cow took about an hour to plant its compost; the second year, only about 10 minutes. So you never know how long it’s going to take, “ Sean Dasmann, PTSA vice-president and the event’s master of ceremonies, said in a press release. “The element of surprise is part of the fun; no matter how long it takes, it will be a fun day and a great chance to raise some much-needed funds for the school.”

If the winner is present at the event and claims the prize within 10 minutes, he or she will pocket an additional $250.

“So it pays to be in the audience,” Dasmann added in the press release.

But a bovine bowel movement isn’t the only thing featured at the event. There will also be a musical performance by the Orcutt Academy band, as well as the choir and cheerleaders. Student clubs will also run concessions booths. The fun starts at 10 a.m.

Due to state budget cuts, local schools are facing increasingly tough decisions about how to fund classroom supplies and other equipment. The funds raised through this year’s Cow Chip Bingo will be used directly in the classroom.
