Five students from Allan Hancock College will travel to Louisville, Ky., to compete in the SkillsUSA National Championships, which aim to recognize students in trade, industrial, technical, and health occupations education.
This yearās national competition, scheduled for June 21 through 23, will mark the second consecutive year in which Hancock is represented at the championships. Hancock student Daniel Deham will compete alongside fellow students Wyatt Allen, Charliemar Collado, Spencer Copeland, and Sebastian Ramirez for national titles.
āI donāt get to travel outside of California much, so Iām really excited to go to nationals,ā Deham said in a Hancock press release. āI am going to keep studying the latest trends and technology and prepare the best that I can.ā
Deham, 38, qualified at SkillsUSAās state conference in San Diego last month, where he took first place in the computer programming and job interview categories. Heās slated to earn his associate degree in electronics technology from Hancock this spring.
āWinning at state showed me itās never too late to reach your goals,ā Deham said in the release. He already holds a bachelorās in computer science from Cal Poly.
Hancockās 12 state competitors won a total of 14 metals. The five advancing to nationals will join more than 6,000 career and technical education students, competing in 100 trade, technical, and leadership fields.
