Five students from Allan Hancock College will travel to Louisville, Ky., to compete in the SkillsUSA National Championships, which aim to recognize students in trade, industrial, technical, and health occupations education.

This year’s national competition, scheduled for June 21 through 23, will mark the second consecutive year in which Hancock is represented at the championships. Hancock student Daniel Deham will compete alongside fellow students Wyatt Allen, Charliemar Collado, Spencer Copeland, and Sebastian Ramirez for national titles.

ā€œI don’t get to travel outside of California much, so I’m really excited to go to nationals,ā€ Deham said in a Hancock press release. ā€œI am going to keep studying the latest trends and technology and prepare the best that I can.ā€

Deham, 38, qualified at SkillsUSA’s state conference in San Diego last month, where he took first place in the computer programming and job interview categories. He’s slated to earn his associate degree in electronics technology from Hancock this spring.

ā€œWinning at state showed me it’s never too late to reach your goals,ā€ Deham said in the release. He already holds a bachelor’s in computer science from Cal Poly.

Hancock’s 12 state competitors won a total of 14 metals. The five advancing to nationals will join more than 6,000 career and technical education students, competing in 100 trade, technical, and leadership fields.
