A hotel manager with more than 30 years of knowledgewill be sharing his experience with Allan Hancock College students who want to break into the hospitality industry.

ā€œIt’s definitely a growth area and, in the near future, there will be more job openings and careers in the hospitality industry,ā€ Max Tucker, the hotel manager who will be teaching Introduction to the Hospitality Industry at Hancock’s Solvang Center, said in a press release.

According to information from the college, Tucker has been the general manager of the Best Western Big America Hotel in Santa Maria for the last 20 years. In that time, he said he’s seen the hospitality industry change and become more competitive. Customer expectations have risen, he explained, and they require more amenities at more competitive prices. And now there’s a need for trained workers in areas such as revenue management, hotel sales, and marketing.

The class will meet Wednesdays from 1 to 3:05 p.m. beginning Jan. 26, 2011.

For more registration information, call the college at 922-6966, Ext. 3248.
