Specially designed “green” classrooms have been installed at the future site of Central Coast New Tech High School, a technology-focused school in the Lucia Mar School District that opens in August. The classrooms will provide a new wing of permanent learning space, plus an eco-friendly restroom building.

Gen7, a green building fabrication company, designed the oversized classrooms to support the school’s project-based curriculum and interdisciplinary instruction.

District Superintendent Jim Hogeboom said the buildings will teach students first-hand about sustainability and environmental challenges.

The facilities combine recycled materials with the latest smart technology, such as low-emitting windows and skylights and an outdoor ventilation system that circulates fresh, filtered air.

The Gen7 buildings are on the south end of the Nipomo High School campus, at 525 N. Thompson Road.
