More than 250 students at Fesler Junior High School got to walk the halls of all the California State University colleges on May 6 as part of a virtual tour led by college students and CSU officials.
Students boarded a specially equipped tour bus filled with 30 laptop computers to explore career interests and learn about courses of study at the CSU systemās different campuses. The bus was set up like a dorm room so the seventh and eight graders could get a feel for college life.
Student volunteers from Cal Poly, SLO, acted as ambassadors, helping the middle schoolers navigate the college websites and answering questions about college life, financial aid, and scholarships. The bus tour, which is being organized by Cal Poly, will visit approximately 40 junior and high schools throughout the state. Fesler is the only area school to be invited to participate in the event.
The goals of the āRoad to College Tourā are to encourage early academic preparation and to increase access to the 23 CSU campuses for underserved students.
