Hundreds of volunteers will be stationed at street intersections in Santa Maria and Orcutt on April 3 from 6 a.m. to noon selling $1 special edition ā€œDay of Hopeā€ Santa Maria Times newspapers.

All proceeds from the fundraising event will go toward providing support to Marian Cancer Care patients at Mission Hope Cancer Center.

ā€œOne hundred percent of ā€˜Day of Hope’ event proceeds remain local, benefiting Mission Hope Cancer Center patients who are our community neighbors and friends,ā€ said Dr. Monica Rocco, medical director at Mission Hope Breast Care Center, in a recent press release. ā€œThe fight against cancer can be a long, difficult battle, and the comprehensive care provided by Mission Hope Cancer Center offers crucial support to cancer patients and their families from the moment of diagnosis, throughout treatment and survivorship.ā€

In addition to purchasing newspapers and volunteering the day of the event, community members are also urged to lend their support by honoring a loved one affected by cancer with a $25 tribute gift, which features an acknowledgment in the July 2014 edition of Marian’s Innovations magazine. Donations and participation as an event sponsor are also encouraged.

ā€œSince the opening of Mission Hope Cancer Center particularly, the outpouring of community interest in supporting excellent care for local cancer patients has been truly remarkable,ā€ said Stephanie Grogan, vice president of philanthropy at Marian Regional Medical Center, in the press release. ā€œMarian’s ā€˜Day of Hope’ event is the ideal opportunity for anyone who would like to make a meaningful difference in the lives of cancer patients in our community.ā€

Along with Marian Regional Medical Center Foundation, ā€œDay of Hopeā€ sponsors include the Santa Maria Times, KCOY Channel 12, and KKFX Channel 11.
