Celebrate the American Humane Association’s national Adopt-a-Cat Month by picking out a special feline friend at the Santa Maria Valley Humane Society on Black Road in Santa Maria.
During the spring and summer months, area shelters take in hundreds of homeless kittens. Of course, there are plenty of older cats that need loving homes, too.
To encourage people to adopt more cats, the Santa Maria Valley Humane Society is offering two cats or kittens for the price of one adoption fee through the end of June, or $25 off the adoption fee of any single feline every Saturday in June.
“All animals come spayed/neutered, vaccinated, and microchipped, making adoption by far the most affordable means of acquiring a wonderful new pet,” Jill Tucker, executive director of the Santa Maria Valley Humane Society, said in a press release. “We strongly encourage the public to come and meet our wonderful animals waiting for loving homes.”
The shelter has an extensive selection of adult cats and many adorable kittens available for adoption. Additionally, there’s a long list of cats and kittens waiting to be relinquished.
“As the entire Central Coast continues to struggle with the overpopulation of cats, the shelter is strongly encouraging the public to have cats spayed and neutered,” Tucker said.
The Santa Maria Valley Humane Society offers low cost spay/neuter services in its onsite clinic six days a week. To schedule an appointment or inquire about adoptable animals, call 349-3435 or visit the facility at 751 Black Road in Santa Maria. Adoptable animals can be seen online at smvhs.org.
