Your Friends & Neighbors

What’s it rated? TV-MA

When? 2025

Where’s it showing? Apple TV+

Jon Hamm stars as Andrew Cooper (known as “Coop” throughout the series), an affluent hedge fund manager who finds himself pushed out of his firm and a bit adrift. His ex-wife, Mel (Amanda Peet), and kids live in the house he had to give up when they split, and a frequent visitor is Nick (Mark Tallman), Coop’s ex-best friend and Mel’s new beau.

Between all-star tennis lessons, the country club membership, and alimony, Coop knows he’s in big trouble when the funds run out. But Coop’s eyes are opened when he starts to look around. He’s got bougie friends who spend $30,000 on a bottle of wine and $250,000 on a watch they never wear, just for the prestige. Obnoxious wealth suddenly comes into focus for Coop, and he decides to pad his wallet by hocking their forgotten treasures, all while still attending their parties and socializing with them.

Hamm is a great lead, and Coop’s devilish bravado as a rich white man feeds the narrative of this upper-crust dramedy. Things get ever more complicated as his scheme wears on, and with two episodes left of the season, this series has me on pins and needles. (10 46- to 56-min. episodes)
