Local weightlifters are invited to compete in the Senior Airman Dan Johnson Memorial Patriot Games Challenge at the Santa Maria Athletic Club on May 21.

The event is comprised of powerlifting, bench press, deadlift, and push-pull competitions, and is presented by the United States Powerlifting Association. Lifting will begin at 9 a.m., followed by a special program in memory of Johnson, a technician stationed at Vandenberg Air Force base who was killed in Afghanistan in October.

Members of the legendary World War II Tuskegee Airmen squadron will be present and honored during the festivities. The Air Force; veterans from Korea, Vietnam, and Iraq; and local fallen police officers Robert Ramos and Scott Williams will also be recognized.

The Santa Maria Athletic Club is at 1321 S. Bradley Road.

To sign up to compete, or to find out more, call 344-2186 or e-mail kmctawzer@verizon.net.
