The Santa Maria Police Activities League is looking for young people between grades nine and 12 to join its robotics team.

The team will compete in the 2015 robotics competition season, which starts in January and can run through May, depending on the team’s ability to continue competing.

The team will build a robot consistent with certain requirements.Ā  The robot will have to be able to complete a given task at the competitions.Ā 

The team’s positions include design, mechanical, electrical, programming, computer-aided drafting, business, marketing, and safety.

Sign-ups begin Nov. 24 at the Abel Maldonado Community Youth Center, and joining the team is free.
