Fabulous. Fed up. Flippin’ funny.
That’s a good description of the protagonists in Orcutt Community Theater’s The Hallelujah Girls, directed by L. Chatel. Join the girl gang at the OASIS Senior Center to watch their trials and tribulations, evoking emotions across the spectrum.
“An old flame struts back into town, a surprise proposal turns heads, a surprising solution for a stale marriage, a renegade son, and a certain ‘bless-her-heart’ villain plotting chaos,” the theater stated about the play, which was written by Jessie Jones, Nicholas Hope, and Jamie Wooten.
The group of locals cast in The Hallelujah Girls are all seniors. Only one actor has yet to reach 50 years old.
Traci Mettler-Bradbury plays lead character Sugar Lee Thompkins, and this is her first ever community theater production, she told the Sun via email. However, she’s no stranger to the stage, having performed with professional theaters for many years.
The production runs from Aug. 14 to 30. Showtimes are on Fridays and Saturdays at 7 p.m. and on Sundays at 4 p.m. Doors open half an hour prior at 420 Soares Ave. in Orcutt.
