The Santa Maria Recreation and Parks Department announced the winners of Los Flores Ranch Park’s “Name That Burro Contest,” awarding Katherine Rosalee Sutterfield the right to grant the burro his official name: Solomon.
Sutterfield named the park’s newly adopted burro after the Solomon Hills, home of Los Flores Ranch. Second place went to Lily Martinez for the name Chance, which she picked because the burro was given a second chance by the Bureau of Land Management’s Wild Horse and Burro Program. Audrey Brice won third place for the name Yonder, referring to the burro being able to roam freely in the park’s open space.
In addition to Sutterfield granting the burro’s name, Martinez and Brice will receive prizes courtesy of Santa Maria Recreation and Parks, Farm Supply, and Pedal Power.
