The Santa Maria Girls All-Stars 12U Indians II team is representing Santa Maria in the Amateur Softball Association Nationals tournament in New Mexico on Aug. 2 and needs the community’s help to get there.

The team estimates each of its 13 players needs to raise at least $1,000 to cover traveling, uniforms, and hotel and food costs for the weeklong tournament, and is reaching out to local businesses and individuals for donations. A combined donation of $250 or more will get the company’s name displayed as a ā€œGrand Slamā€ sponsor on the team’s banner for all future games. A donation of $100 or more will earn contributors the distinction of a ā€œHome Runā€ sponsor, and lesser contributors will have their names displayed as ā€œTeam Players.ā€

Indians II players are currently asking the community for flat donations for their Bat-a-thon fundraiser on
July 20, held during a practice at the Minami Center fields. Each player will get a total of about 25 pitches, competing in contests to get the most hits, the farthest hits, and more.

To make a donation, call assistant coach Steve Martinez at 720-2057 or mail a check to SMGS P.O. Box 7933, Santa Maria, CA, 93456. Checks can be made out to SMGS 12U All-Stars.
