Art in the Parks is set to open on Oct. 7, and the Santa Barbara County Arts Commission, the County Park Foundation, and the County Art in Public Places Committee are looking for artists who celebrate the outdoors.

The call is open to all California residents. Work will show at Channing Peake Gallery in Santa Barbara from Sept. 27 through Feb. 18 and at the Betteravia Gallery in Santa Maria from Feb. 21 through May 20.

The juror for the exhibition is Scott Canty, currently the curator/director of the Los Angeles Municipal Art Gallery, senior curator for the Los Angeles World Airport exhibition program, and director of the DCA Slide Registry. Canty also serves as the director of exhibitions at the Palos Verdes Art Center.

To download a prospectus with guidelines, fees, and a list of parks, visit sbartscommission.org; locate Artist Opportunities and click on Art in the Parks. Cash awards will total $500. Works entered may be featured in a 2011 Santa Barbara County Parks calendar.
