• Youth Rugby League Registration: Children ages 10 through 18 are invited to try out for the Santa Maria Sharks, the first youth rugby league in Santa Barbara County. The league will hold a sign-up session at the Santa Maria Walmart, 2220 S. Bradley Road, on Aug. 27 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Players can also sign up online at riseandachieve.com. The cost is $80. • Meet the Rollers: The Rocketeer Rollers roller derby squad will be holding a recruitment and meet-and-greet on Aug. 27 at Orcutt Community Park, 5800 S. Bradley Road in Santa Maria. The event runs from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. and includes skate demos, raffle prizes, free snacks, and info on joining the team. • Braves Classic Golf Tournament: The sixth annual benefit tournament for Lompoc High School’s athletic department takes place Sept. 4 at the La Purisima Golf Course. Play begins with a 9 a.m. shotgun start. The cost to enter the four-man scramble tournament is $150 per person, $600 for a group of four, or $700 for a group of four, plus a tee marker. • Lou Benetti Memorial Golf Tournament: Members of the public will be able to team up with blind golfers for charity at the 12th annual Lou Benetti Memorial Golf Tournament, held at the Village Country Club in Vandenberg Village on Sept. 17. Proceeds will go to benefit blind and visually impaired children. Following the tournament will be the 12th annual California Blind Golf Classic on Sept. 18 and 19, a 36-hole competition for visually impaired golfers. • Santa Barbara County Golf Championship: Entries are currently being accepted for the 36-hole championship tournament, to be held at the La Purisima Golf Course in Lompoc Oct. 22 to 23. The tournament is open to amateur golfers 18 and older. The cost is $150 and includes green fees, a prize fund, and a barbecue. Carts will be optional and cost $10 each day.
