The Santa Maria Public Library is currently accepting submissions for its fifth annual Cowboy Poetry Contest, which is open to local students, ranging from grades K through 12. Participants are asked to write original poems about cowboys or cowgirls and their day-to-day lives (applicants are allowed to submit more than one entry).

The deadline to enter this local competition, sponsored by the Santa Maria Public Library Foundation, is Monday, Aug. 23. Prizes will be presented to the contest’s winners during an awards ceremony at the Santa Maria Public Library, on Saturday, Aug. 28, at 2 p.m.

Entry forms for the Cowboy Poetry Contest can be found online at cityofsantamaria.org/library or printed out and picked up at the Santa Maria Public Library, located at 421 S. McClelland St., Santa Maria. Each individual poem entry requires its own entry form (one form per entry, not per author).
