St. Mary of the Assumption school was pleased to announce in a press release the success of their Lady Squires basketball team, which recently charged ahead to win its third championship.

The Squires finished with a near perfect season at 14-1 and defeated Pacific Christian 40-27 for a third-straight league tournament championship.

“St. Mary’s is the first team in the league’s history to ever win three championship tournaments in a row,” said Vince Martinez, league chairman. “No one has ever been three-peated winning the regular season, let alone both the season and tournament.”

According to the release, St. Mary’s girls’ basketball dominated the competition with a regular season record of 42 wins and two losses.

“I am so proud of the team,” said coach Chuck Miller. “Not only are they great basketball players and fierce competitors, but I’ve never seen a group of girls with better sportsmanship.”
