Women’s volleyball and women’s soccer at Allan Hancock College are both set to get new coaches next season. Athletic Director Kim Ensing has recommended Julio Molina as the new volleyball coach and Rodrigo Garcia for women’s soccer.

Molina has coached at the high school level for the past five years, most recently as the junior varsity head coach at St. Joseph High School and as coach for the 16-and-younger girls’ team with the Central Coast Volleyball Club.

He also played volleyball at North Hollywood High, was a member of the Los Angeles City Section championship team, and played at Cal Poly for a club team that placed in the top four at the National Intramural Recreational Sports Association Club Volleyball Nationals. Molina graduated from Cal Poly in 2005 and works as an electrical engineer at C & D Zodiac, Inc. in Santa Maria.

Garcia is a former professional soccer and football player. He played soccer for Stanford, and was selected to play for the San Jose Earthquakes. Garcia also kicked for the Stanford football team and hit a 31-yard field goal in the closing seconds of the 1972 Rose Bowl game to take his team to a 13-12 victory over Michigan. Garcia was also drafted by the Oakland Raiders and played briefly with the Baltimore Colts and Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

If Garcia is appointed, Hancock soccer will become a family affair. Rodrigo Garcia is the brother of Hancock men’s soccer coach Al Garcia. The Hancock board is set to meet on Aug. 19 to take action on both of Ensing’s recommendations for the new coaches.
