The Dana Adobe Nipomo Amigos (DANA) originally formed to restore the 176-year-old Dana Adobe building, but with the task complete, the nonprofit organization has shifted its focus as it builds a new visitors center and has issued a new logo and mission statement.
Its new name, the Dana Cultural Center—a name that reflects not just the historic Dana Adobe, but also the surrounding 130-acre preserve—was recently announced along with the new logo. The logo depicts the rolling Nipomo hills as seen through the frame of the Dana Adobe Sala (living room) window, with a bell hanging on the right side. The bell signifies life at the Dana Adobe and reflects the Adobe’s proximity to the El Camino Real and the local missions.
This new image services DANA’s new mission statement, to educate visitors about the site’s history, nature, and community connections. This is to be achieved through the new visitors center, Nature Education Facility, a Chumash interpretive area, walking trails, tours, and interactive exhibits. DANA currently exhibits information and plans regarding the expansion of facilities and restoration efforts.
The Dana Cultural Center is open for tours Saturdays and Sundays from 1 to 4 p.m. at 671 S. Oakglen Ave. Nipomo. More information is available at 929-5679 or
