Students can dance

Two students from the Everybody Can DANCE Vaganova Ballet Academy received scholarships awarded by the Santa Barbara Dance Alliance on Jan. 23.

Sydney Burkert and Kaila Holford started with a recommendation from their teacher, Diane Zink, for scholarship competition. After excelling in October auditions, the young artists were among 14 students who received awards of up to $750 in matching funds for dance study.

Arts council gets social

Celebrate the arts at the Santa Maria Arts Council Evening Social set for Feb. 9 from 5:30 to 7 p.m. at the Good Neighbor Bakery, 2660 Industrial Parkway in Santa Maria.

Entertainment will include PCPA’s Outreach Showcase, a medley of tunes by Coastal Voices, and Pete the Bakery Guy—because food is art, too.

Light refreshments and beverages will be served. Cost is $6.

Browse brushes and palettes

Ā Brush and Palette’s ninth annual art show and sale offers art lovers an opportunity to finally start that art collection. The event will feature a collection of more than 200 paintings by 10 artists from 11:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. on Feb. 15 at the Foxenwood Tennis and Swim Club. Take a leisurely stroll through the exhibits while enjoying complimentary wine and hors d’oeuvres, then enter the drawing for a ā€œWeekend in Tuscanyā€ gift basket.

Participating artists include Marilyn Dover Benson, Barbara Shepherd, Vora Jean Souza, Minnie Anderson, Kathleen Fenton, Jackie Seaman, Karen Davis-MacDonald, Lamar Rowbury, Beverly Hoebel, andĀ  her son, Robert Hoebel.

A featured guest artist will be local ceramist Bill Shinn, whose work shows around the world.

Admission is free.

Calling all artists

The Lompoc Art Advisory Committee is putting out a call to artists to submit work for consideration as an exhibitor in the Grossman Gallery of the Lompoc Public Library at 501 E. North Ave.

The committee will select and schedule exhibits at its regular meeting at 4 p.m. on Feb 5. The selection process will encompass a 12-month exhibition schedule, beginning January 2010.

Artists can submit their work to the Grossman Gallery between 3 and 3:30 p.m. on Feb. 5 and pick them up after the committee meeting.
