Spend the day on Orcutt Hill and be a part of history at the Santa Maria Valley Open Space’s first-ever “Orcutt Trailpaloosa” fundraiser on April 21.
The event kicks off at 8 a.m. when the Open Space group opens the first multi-use trail system in the Santa Maria Valley at the Orcutt Community Park on Bradley Road. The historic occasion will be followed by an all-day local music festival, barbecue and raffle, from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the Newlove picnic grounds on Orcutt Hill.
The festivities start with performances from local guitar players Manny Mestas and Nathan Towne. At noon, there will be a Boy Scout flag ceremony, with a live performance of the national anthem. The public will then have a meet and greet with candidates for 4th district supervisor. Each candidate will have about 15 minutes to speak and answer questions from the crowd. Supervisor Joni Gray will speak at noon, followed by Joyce Howerton at 1 p.m., and Peter Adam (or his representative) at 2 p.m.
The fundraiser is open to the public and free to attend. The barbecue is $10. Attendees are encouraged to bring a lawn chair and their favorite bottle of wine. Local bands Sassafras Union, Still Evolving, Time Furnace are also scheduled to perform.
