The work of one of Denmark’s most treasured 20th century artists, Bjørn Wiinblad (1918-2006), is on display at the Elverhoj Museum of History and Art through Jan. 10 next year.
Wiinblad crafted ceramics, porcelain, glass, textiles, wood, and theater designs, according to the museum. William Derrenbacher donated selections for the exhibit, titled Through the Eyes of Bjørn Wiinblad.
“This exhibition represents a transformational moment for Elverhoj Museum,” Executive Director Sandie Mullin said in a press release. “There are moments in the life of a museum that feel less like acquisitions and more like homecomings. Mr. Derrenbacher’s extraordinary gift ensures that this remarkable collection will educate and inspire visitors for generations to come.”
Aunty Ella (pictured) is a ceramic figurine circa 1957. Additional pieces in the collection include platters and candleholders.
“The exhibition features ceramics from Wiinblad’s own studio, his celebrated collaborations with Nymølle and Rosenthal, along with tapestries, posters, glass, and other works that showcase the remarkable diversity of his artistic vision.”
