Regarding the American Party commentary (āThink of the country, not the party,ā March 11): The Republican Party is closer to honoring our Constitution than the Democrat Party, though it can share plenty of the blame for the present grotesque situation. Voters must not tolerate candidates who, when questioned, mouth generalities and platitudes (e.g., Obama, though he spoke clearly enough for this person to know she wanted no part of him).
Because this is a republic, our elected representatives are free to vote as they wish. Instead of having term limits, which sounds appealing (yet look where the ubiquitous BrownsāJerry and Willieātook that), we exercise our right and vote them out if we donāt like the way they represent us or re-elect them if we wish. The price of not being on guard is their becoming our masters instead of our servants.
Too many Americans are ignorant and lazy, not knowing or caring what monstrosities are contained in something like the various health-care proposals. If they did, theyād be beating down the doors of the White House and Congress, demanding an end to this assault on our nation and our consciences.
