According to an article I read this morning, Gov. Jerry Brown wants our state lawmakers to “bite the bullet and enact new fees and taxes” to pay for repairs to California’s crumbling highways.
Really? I don’t think there is anyone in the United States who doesn’t know that we pay more gas taxes than most any other state! If you want to see the real numbers, the breakdown of our gas taxes, here is an excellent article: watchdog.org/232083/california-gas-taxes/.
If you’re smart you will share this with your family, friends, and co-workers. It is time for everyone—Democrat, Republican, Independent, white, black, Latino, young, or old—to call, write or visit your state representatives today! Tell them we have had enough, and we will not let them raise our taxes.
The above mentioned article explains that we pay, per gallon, $.39 state excise tax, $.18.4 federal excise tax, $.30 to $.42 sales tax (depending on what your city or county tax rate is), and the infamous “Cap and Trade” tax of $.10. As you can see, some of these are a “tax on a tax.” The governor not only wants to raise gas taxes, he wants to tack on another $65 to your vehicle registration fees. The solution? Stop building the bullet train to nowhere.
According to the LA Times, the $68 billion project “is likely to overshoot budget.” Hardly surprising. A more realistic cost for this nonsense is $200 billion.
Until our politicians start spending our tax dollars like it’s their own money, I will not vote for new taxes or anyone who promotes them. That goes for city and county politicians too. Have you had enough yet? I suggest you contact Sen. Hannah-Beth Jackson and Assemblyman Katcho Achadjian today and tell them, NO MORE!
