When I read Jamie Ford’s letter advocating the dismantling of the veterans’ health care system (ā€œDo veterans deserve socialist health care?ā€ July 30), it certainly sounded to me like a position of advocacy and not a satire (as stated in ā€œIn support of the Veterans Administration,ā€ Aug. 13).

Maybe he should do as a radio comic of the 1930s (or so) used to do—make an outrageous statement and then bluster, ā€œThat’s a joke, now.ā€ We read too many statements of outrageous proposals of public policy to find a fake one funny.
