The response to the recent attack on the Republicans practicing for a baseball fundraiser is a great example of Democrats and Republicans coming together, if only for a short time. The Democrats lost the last presidential election. It is past due for both parties to come together and support the office of the president of the United States and not seek revenge because of the results from the election box. You don’t see Republicans leading riots, smashing windows, or blocking highways, but you do see that happening with the encouragement (and sometimes funding) from the Democrats.
I heard that a New Jersey Democratic Strategist called for “#huntrepublicancongressmen.” That should be a crime—similar to the girl who was charged with manslaughter for encouraging her boyfriend to commit suicide. But, we have grown used to hearing about the violent attacks on Republicans—first verbal, then physical. It is time for the senior officials in the Democratic Party who are trying to destroy anything that a Republican does to begin to work together with Republicans. We can do it, because it has been done before. You don’t see Republicans acting like some of these rebellious Democrats when a Republican president isn’t elected. And, agreed, there are a lot of Democrats who are trying to work together, but it is the senior officials who aren’t that I have an issue with, and it is affecting “followers” like what happened at the baseball field.
It is even being suggested that the violent rhetoric that those senior officials promote against the Republicans influenced the attacker at that baseball field. As I said earlier, the response to the recent attack on the Republicans practicing for a baseball fundraiser is a great example of both parties coming together. President Trump even stated that all the people who were serving in Congress love the U.S., and I would like to think that is true. But the actions of a few show to me that they love the power that they think they have, and will do whatever they can to retain it—even if it hurts the country in the process.
No matter what you think about President Trump, if you are a citizen of the U.S., he is your president. If you are a U.S. citizen and still say he isn’t your president, then you are just being ignorant. The office of the president should be respected (no matter who is in office) and all of us should do what we can to help this country move on, and not try to tear it down. People say that America is great, and I can agree with that on some levels, but it can be greater than it is, if people stop trying to tear it down. Arthur Brooks, president of the American Enterprise Institute stated that we have a contempt problem in American politics. The problem with politics isn’t opposing views, it’s the way we speak to each other. Let’s make an effort to all work together to help this country move forward.
