Right now, in California, New York, Texas, and everywhere in between, ICE agents are ramping up to meet Stephen Miller’s new, hate-fueled quota of 3,000 people per day. Three thousand families ripped apart.

A father dropping off a student at Allan Hancock College in Santa Maria was kidnapped in early October. A father in New York was shot in front of his 5-year-old son. The hotlines of rapid response networks and immigrants’ rights organizations are exploding with frantic texts. It is, perhaps, not a coincidence that we are less than a month away from the midterm election.

Republicans control the White House and both houses of Congress. They have the power to stop this but refuse to act. Remember the “One Big Beautiful Bill”? The one that took food out of the mouths of hungry children, threw people off Medicaid, closed rural hospitals, and gave more tax breaks to the rich? It also gave billions of dollars to ICE. The One Big Beautiful Bill passed without a single Democratic vote.

Is this the kind of country you want?

We have the power to hold ICE and the Republicans accountable. We have the power to elect people who still believe in democracy, who don’t take crypto and AI and corporate money, and who want to make a better country. There are dozens of them running for Congress all over the country.

In the words of the young climate activist Greta Thunberg, “The one thing we need more than hope is action. Once we start to act hope is everywhere.”

Act now.

Vote.
