Youth Making Change (YMC) is handing out $30,000 in grants during April. The teen-led grant-making program that was started by the Fund for Santa Barbara in 2008 will distribute $15,000 in grants for southern Santa Barbara County and $15,000 for the north.
YMC provides grants to youth-led projects addressing community issues and challenges directly affecting youth.
The YMC South awards celebration will be on April 4 from 5 to 6:30 p.m. at Antioch University, 602 Anacapa St. in Santa Barbara. YMC North celebrates its grants on April 11 from 5 to 6:30 p.m. at the Ambrosia Restaurant, 122 E. Boone St. in Santa Maria.
Grant winners in the South County are $1,600 for Next Chapter Book Club, $1,280 for the Santa Barbara High School Ready2Move Club, $2,500 for Santa Barbara PAL’s Youth Leadership Council, $1,060 for Santa Barbara Tennis Patrons Youth Mentors summer camp, $3,735 for the Improving Dreams Equality Access and Success Youth Conference, $1,900 for Youth to Youth Santa Barbara, and $2,925 for yStrive for Youth, Inc.
North County grant winners include $1,600 for Central Coast Future Leaders, $3,000 for the Ernest Righetti High School Latinos Unidos Club, $3,081 for the Fighting Back Santa Maria Valley Youth Involvement Group, $3,190 for the Freedom4Youth Leadership Program’s anti-bullying project, $1,180 for the Lompoc High School Students Against Violent Experiences Club, $2,149 for the LULAC Youth Council of Santa Maria, and $800 for the Santa Maria High School Las Comadres Club.
