
On May 20, Lompoc Police Department Explorer Post 700 attended the Kern County Memorial Explorer Competition in Tehachapi. The team included four high school students and two college students.
During the competition, the Lompoc team battled it out against 16 other postsāa total of 160 others partaking in real-life encounters. The Lompoc Explorer group placed second in the Crime Scene Investigation competition, second in bomb threats, third in tug-of-war, and fourth in the felony car stop portion.
The team was advised by police officer David Lamar. When the group isnāt traveling to competitions, members of the program help with local events, including the Flower Festival, Spring Arts Festival, checkpoints, and others. The program is open to participants as young as 14 years old, and members may stay in the program until their 21st birthday.
