On April 25, the Santa Barbara Foundation honored some of Northern Santa Barbara County’s highest-achieving high school students at the Santa Maria Library. Created by Gwendolyn Floro, the Floro Awards grant scholarships exclusively to students in North County.

“It is made to students from the Santa Maria Valley who have demonstrated exceptional academic achievement and who have also distinguished themselves as truly concerned and active citizens through community service,” said Judy Markline, trustee emeritus of the Santa Barbara Foundation.
Twelve students received the award. The recipients have a wide range of passions and plan to study a variety of subjects such as biology, nursing, ag business, chemistry, architecture, political science, mechanical engineering, marine biology, dental hygiene, and English.
