On Oct. 14, more than 180 CoastHills Credit Union employees will pick up paintbrushes, shovels, and wheelbarrows to give one school a onceover. But the school still needs to be chosen from three finalists: Kermit McKenzie Junior High School in Guadalupe, Orcutt Academy in Orcutt, and Olga Reed Elementary School in Los Alamos.
The winner of CoastHills’ Difference Makeover will be determined through online, in-branch, and employee voting, which began on Sept. 9.
It’s the second year CoastHills has put on the event in conjunction with United We Paint. The event celebrates volunteerism and community giving by providing a school with a much-needed makeover that consists of a fresh coat of paint and landscaping.
Vandenberg Middle School reaped the benefits of last year’s event. Multiple buildings and benches were painted; decorative stones, plants, and flowers were put around the campus; and volunteers also did a general cleanup.
Scott Coe, CoastHills senior vice president of marketing, said in a press release that the credit union uses its whole workforce to get the job done.
“With our entire staff involved, it is really incredible what a difference we can make for a local school in just one day,” Coe said in the release.
