Alas, Aug. 31 is the last night for this season’s Olde Towne Market in Lompoc. If you haven’t been down to the market yet, this is your last chance. The market runs from 5 to 7 p.m. in the 100 block of South H Street.
This Friday, we “Celebrate The Best of Lompoc.” Market patrons will have an opportunity to view the city’s Public Works equipment from the utility, electrical, and other city departments. Jennifer from the wastewater department will provide free face painting, and a Colt bus will be there, too, so residents can learn about local transportation services.
Also, there will be 13 wineries offering their wines for tasting. For only $5, you can have three tastings or unlimited tastings for $20. Proceeds will go to Youth Lompoc Leadership.
Child Appointed Special Advocates (CASA) will also be on hand recruiting 30 volunteers from Lompoc to work with foster youth in the court system.
Other features include: a motocross presentation from Motor Sports; Mary Lou Parks will have her book on the History of the Alpha Club available for sale; city librarian Molly Gerard will have a display of children’s books; and the Flower Festival Queen and her court will be promoting the Harvest Festival, which is scheduled for Oct. 19 through 21 at Ryon Park.
Residents will have an opportunity to meet our new Fire Chief Kurk Latipow and our new Police Chief Larry Ralston.
Thanks to Brian and Sam Cole, we will have two outstanding musical groups; Midnight Mosey, a female power-folk group with Kelly Wildowski, Michele Casteel, and Michele’s daughter Savannah, as well as the band Dante Elephante, which performs surf rock.
We owe a special thank you to Kathy McVay and the farmers market for moving to Cypress Avenue, and to the Old Towne Market committee headed by John Keth.
We will soon begin planning for the 2013 season. If you have ideas for next year, call me t 736-4005.
