On May 6, Vandenberg Air Force Base opened the new 6,000-plus square-foot Balfour Beatty Community Center for military family housing residents. The new facility is located at 602 Juniper St and encompasses features the whole family can enjoy.

The inside consists of a playroom, conference room, multi-purpose room equipped with a full kitchen, and two 50ā€ flat screen TVs with DVD players. There’s also a fitness room equipped with elliptical machines, treadmill, mats, free weights, flat screen televisions, and locker rooms.

The outside is just as amazing, especially for sport and fitness enthusiasts. There’s a jogging track, pool and splash park, tot playground, picnic tables, barbecue grills, sauna, tennis courts, baseball and soccer fields, basketball courts, and sand volleyball courts. There is even a dog park for man’s best friend.

Our servicemen deserve a lot, and while this facility is peanuts in comparison to their sacrifice it has been a joy for all those who worked on the project.

ā€œIt is our sincerest hope that the families at Vandenberg AFB thoroughly enjoy the Community Center and its amenities for years to come,ā€ said Dan Savoia, Area Project Director for Balfour Beatty Communities. ā€œFrom construction to renovations of family homes to this Community Center, it has truly been our pleasure to provide and serve.ā€

The opening was celebrated with a cheerful ribbon cutting ceremony.Ā  More than 300 residents were present to enjoy the festivities. Refreshments, games, and activities were provided thanks to the vendors of Vandenberg. The Vandenberg Boy Scouts were also involved in the ceremony, as was the Manzanita Charter School Choir, which put on a lovely performance.

ā€œThe grand opening of our new community center was representative of this fantastic community and we are excited to offer a central location where residents can come together,ā€ said Brandi Lytle, LifeWorks Coordinator for Balfour Beatty Communities at Vandenberg Air Force Base.
