United Way will commemorate its 50th year milestone at the Elks Lodge in Santa Maria on March 19, when past board presidents and campaign chairs will be honored. The dedicated volunteers have given their time, talent, and resources to meet the needs of local communities. All members, past or present, are invited to participate.

United Way is a volunteer-led nonprofit that aims to strengthen the lives of community members in Santa Barbara County. The group partners with other nonprofits to focus on impacting the lives of local youth. It provides services targeting basic human needs—food, clothing, and shelter—and helps people seeking to build a better future for the next generation by working to challenge society’s attitudes, beliefs, and behaviors to effect social change.

The group offers drug counseling, tutoring, role models, after-school programs, domestic violence prevention, alcoholism- and drug-abuse prevention, programs to help county seniors maintain their independence, personal care for people who need help, and companionship.

The organization will celebrate its anniversary from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. at the Santa Maria Elks Lodge No. 1538, located at 1309 N. Bradley Road in Santa Maria. The cost for the luncheon is $20 per person. RSVP by March 12 by calling 922-0329.
