The Los Angeles Regional Census Center, comprised of 19 counties in California—including Santa Barbara County—is looking to hire help for its 2010 census counts. The 26 local census offices in Southern California will open in the fall of 2009 to direct field operations for the region’s population count.

The focus of the Regional Center is to recruit and test for six management positions: local census office manager and assistant managers for field operations, administration, recruiting, quality assurance, and technology. Manager salaries range from $19.25 to $29 per hour.

Since 1790, the U.S. Census Bureau has collected detailed information on the country’s population, industries, and institution every 10 years. The nationwide recruitment process for the Census Bureau is the largest peacetime hiring of temporary federal employees next to the United States’ military.
