Allan Hancock College students will have a chance to attend courses across the pond or beyond during the 2010 spring semester as part of the schoolās study abroad program in Italy or England. An informational meeting on the program will be held Oct. 1 at 6:30 p.m. on the Santa Maria campus in room G-106A/B.

Participants in the England program will study literature, political science, history, and art in Cambridge from Jan. 21 to April 22. The city has a population about the size of Santa Barbara and is located an hour by train from London. Participants will live with an English family and experience contemporary British life firsthand. According to a press release from the college, Cambridge excursions include day trips to London for a guided tour of central London and Parliament; an overnight trip to Stratford-Upon-Avon, including a visit to Shakespeareās birthplace and Anne Hathawayās Cottage; day trips to Stonehenge and Bath; and optional excursions to Scotland, Ireland, or other countries of interest.

Students interested in studying communication, art history, and Italian can travel to Rome, Italy, from March 1 to May 11. Excursions include a three-day, two-night trip to Tuscany/Florence, including a stop at the Castello Banfi winery, the Uffizi, and the Ferragamo Museum; a three-day, two-night trip to Naples/Sorrento/Capri; and optional travel opportunities. Participants live in shared housing in student apartments. The program also includes optional cultural and academic opportunities.

Study abroad students pay the regular Hancock enrollment fees, in addition to the cost of the program and travel. The college provides financial aid options to cover travel and living expenses, including scholarships.
