The Sun cleaned up in the 2017 National Newspaper Association’s Better Newspaper Editorial Contest, bringing home two first place awards, along with one in second place and two in third place.

Arts and lifestyle writer Rebecca Rose reeled in both first and second place in the Best Humorous Column category for “Out of my dog league” and “Couchghazi,” respectively—making her the funniest person in America, at least according to her.

David Minsky’s “Truth or lives” took home first place for Best Breaking News Story and his story “Into the ground” placed third for Best Agricultural Story. Managing Editor Joe Payne’s “Coalition meets crisis” won third place for Best Feature Story.

The Sun’s sister paper to the north, New Times, earned awards for four stories, as well.
